A lot has changed since SpruceHost began offering webhosting back in 2008. The iPhone 3G had just been announced, and Apple had just launched the App Store for the first time. Google had not yet released the Google Chrome browser. “The Cloud” was a term that had not yet taken mainstream hold, and hailing a taxi while standing on the sidewalk was still the way to get around in New York City.
As you can see, a lot has changed since then, and the internet has forever changed the way we communicate. One thing that hasn’t changed, however, is SpruceHost. Since 2010, we’ve been charging the same $2.49/month for our hosting plan. Our website’s design hasn’t changed much either – and we know, it isn’t easy on the eyes by today’s standards.
As time has gone on, storage and bandwidth costs have continued to fall. More and more cloud services are moving to per-use pricing plans. Instead of “one size fits all” where you pay for storage you may never use, it is becoming increasingly popular to offer pay-as-you-go hosting. SpruceHost sees this as the future, and we are moving in this direction.
Effective today, with the launch of our new website, we are announcing our new pricing plans. Please head on over to our pricing announcement for full details, but the short and sweet version is this: Now you’ll pay for exactly what you need, and nothing more. You’ll pay per-gigabyte used for storage and transfer, and pennies for additional features like MySQL databases. Don’t need these features? Now you won’t need to pay for them. Pay only for what you need.
Based on our customer data, 85% of our users will save money by moving to our new plans. However, our existing customers have no reason to panic. We’re committed to honoring our existing prices, unlike many of our competitors who continue to raise prices. Existing customers will remain on our $2.49/month legacy plan, and can switch over to our new pricing at any time by opening a support ticket.
We hope you enjoy the new SpruceHost. We have a lot of exciting changes planned as we bring SpruceHost into 2020 and beyond. If you have any comments or questions, please do not hesitate to contact our team.
